PLGB Indigenous Medicine Garden
Spring 2026 Community Foundations Grey Bruce Grant
The goal of Community Grants is to help Community Service Organizations to start a new project or expand a program. Community Foundations Grey Bruce has been able to foster open discussion and growth for our community resulting in enhanced programs, stronger relationships and greater knowledge.
The PLGB Indigenous Medicine Garden Project will use the green space already available at our Holland Centre location to grow traditional herbs and plants and educate staff and supported individuals on the utilization of the medicine garden. An elder from the Saugeen First Nation, whom PLGB has formed a close relationship with, will provide consultation for the sourcing of traditional plants, the design of the garden, an opening ceremony and the blessing of the natural space.
The Community Foundations Grant will allow us to provide the Elder with their well deserved honourarium, the purchase of the plants, design of the garden and staff wages to install the plants and other materials. It will also include educational training from the Elder so our staff can be aware and are able to share the cultural significance of the garden.
We are extremely thankful that Community Foundations Grey Bruce decided to invest in our organization and the community we serve. This grant will ultimately assist in providing our community with education on indigenous culture and traditional indigenous practices.
